How Much Does an Astrology Reading Cost? 2026 Prices Compared
By DailyDestiny Editorial Team
The short answer
As of November 2026, a one-hour live session with a professional astrologer costs about $111 to $329 from the astrologers we checked, and the most in-demand charge $398 to $450 an hour. Written astrology reports cost $3.50 to $70. Astrology apps cost $3.99 to $14.99 a month, and per-minute chat readings run from about $1.99 to $39.99 a minute. A basic birth chart is free on many websites.

You are ready to pay for a reading, but the prices are all over the place: $4 here, $450 there. Here is what each kind of astrology reading really costs, what you get for the money and how to spend it well.

How much does an astrology reading cost in 2026?
You have found an astrologer you like. You click "book" and see $190. Then you find a report for $4 and an app for $11.99 a month, and you start to wonder what you are actually paying for.
The price follows one thing more than any other: how much of a real person's time you get. A live hour with a skilled astrologer who has studied your chart is the most expensive because it is the most personal. A computer-calculated report is cheap because it is written once and reused.
Every price in this guide comes from the astrologer's, publisher's or app's own website or App Store listing, checked on November 2, 2026. Prices change, so check again before you book. Nobody paid to be included and there are no affiliate links.
Here are the tiers at a glance, cheapest first.
Free: birth charts on Astrodienst (astro.com), Astro-Seek, Cafe Astrology and this site. Free daily horoscopes almost everywhere.
Under $10: Cafe Astrology written reports, $3.50 to $7.95. Co-Star in-app extras, such as question packs from $2.99.
$10 to $30: Co-Star's in-app Your Year Ahead report at $11.99. Astrodienst's Forecast Horoscope for the next few months at USD 26.90. DailyDestiny's Your Year Ahead: $29, paid once, and it drops to $19 for the 72 hours after every new moon.
$30 to $75: Astrodienst's 12-month reports, Transits of the Year and Liz Greene's Yearly Horoscope Analysis, at USD 69.90 each as a PDF and USD 74.90 printed.
$100 to $330: live sessions. The Punk Priestess: $100 for 30 minutes, $145 for 45, $190 for 60. Nati Valderrama: $111 for a one-hour solar return session on Zoom, with a recording. Kathryn Hocking: $299 for a solar return reading, $329 for a 60-minute birth chart reading.
$400 and up: the most in-demand names. Kelly Surtees lists a 60-minute 12-month forecast at CAD $398 and Jessica Lanyadoo lists $450 an hour, and both say they are not taking new clients at the moment.
Subscriptions sit beside these: apps from $3.99 a month (Astro Future Premium) to $14.99 a month (The Pattern, Sanctuary+).
Is a more expensive astrologer always better?
No. Price reflects demand and experience, but the best astrologer for you is one whose way of explaining things suits you. Many skilled astrologers charge around $100 to $200 an hour. Read their writing or watch a video first, and book the person who makes sense to you.
Do astrologers charge differently by country?
Yes. Prices are set in the astrologer's own currency and market, so a session in Canada may be listed in Canadian dollars and one in Europe in euros. Most sessions now run over video, so you can book anywhere. Check the currency before you pay.
What do you get in a live session with a professional astrologer?
In a live session, a trained astrologer studies your full birth chart before you meet, then spends 30 to 90 minutes explaining it and answering your questions, usually on Zoom with a recording you keep. That preparation is a big part of what you pay for.
Here is what the astrologers we checked include, from their own booking pages in November 2026.
Nati Valderrama: a one-hour solar return session for $111, on Zoom, recording included. A solar return reads the chart for the moment the Sun returns to its birth position each year, so it is a birthday-to-birthday forecast.
The Punk Priestess: astrology readings at $100 for 30 minutes, $145 for 45 minutes and $190 for 60 minutes.
Kathryn Hocking: a solar return reading for $299, a 45 to 60 minute call with a recording and PDF notes. Her 60-minute birth chart reading is $329.
Kelly Surtees: a 60-minute 12-month astrology forecast for CAD $398 and a 90-minute birth chart consult for CAD $596. Her site says she is currently only seeing past clients, members and students.
Most ask for your birth date, exact birth time and birth place when you book, and some ask for your questions in advance.
Why does an hour cost $100 to $300 when a report costs $5? Because the hour is not really an hour. A good astrologer often spends as long preparing as talking: drawing the chart, checking the year's transits and progressions, and thinking about your questions. Then there is the session, the recording and any notes. Spread over two or three hours of skilled work, the price looks very different.
You also get something no report can give: a conversation. You can say, "That does not sound like me," and the astrologer can look again. You can ask about the job offer, the move or the relationship, and they can point to the parts of your chart and your year that speak to it.
To get the most from a session, prepare. Write down two or three real questions. Note the big events of the last few years with rough dates, because astrologers often use past events to see how your chart works. Check your birth time on a certificate if you can. And book a session type that matches your question: a natal reading for "who am I", a solar return or forecast for "what is this year about", a relationship reading for "us".
If you want to understand the method first, Solar Return Chart: Reading Your Astrological Birthday Year Ahead and Progressed Chart: How Secondary Progressions Track Your Inner Life explain two of the tools astrologers use in a year-ahead session.
What is the difference between a natal reading and a forecast?
A natal reading explains your birth chart: your nature, strengths and patterns. A forecast, such as a solar return or 12-month transit reading, looks at the year ahead and when its themes peak. Many people book a natal reading once and a forecast every year or two.
Should I get a recording of my reading?
Yes, if it is offered. Most people forget much of what was said within days, and a recording lets you listen again when a date in your year arrives. Several of the astrologers we checked include a recording in the price.
How much do written astrology reports cost?
Written astrology reports cost from $3.50 to about $75 as of November 2026, depending on length and author. They are computer-calculated from your chart and assembled from text an astrologer wrote in advance, which is why they cost much less than a live session.
Here are real prices from each seller's own website on November 2, 2026.
Cafe Astrology: Year of Transits, $4.00 (on sale for $3.50 when we checked). Time Line Forecast, $7.50. Four different solar return reports at $4.95 each. Life Trends for two years, $4.95. Delivered by email as a PDF within 24 hours.
Astrodienst (astro.com): Forecast Horoscope for the next few months by Robert Hand, USD 26.90 as a PDF. Transits of the Year by Robert Hand and Yearly Horoscope Analysis by Liz Greene, both USD 69.90 as a PDF or USD 74.90 printed, for a 12-month period you choose. Long-Term Perspectives by Liz Greene, covering six years, USD 69.90.
Co-Star (in the app): a Your Year Ahead report at $11.99 and an Advanced Chart at $8.99, from its App Store listing.
DailyDestiny's Your Year Ahead: $29, paid once, and it drops to $19 for the 72 hours after every new moon. It works from your birthday alone.
What is the catch with written reports? Mostly that they cannot listen. A report describes each transit or placement on its own, often one paragraph at a time, and you have to put the pieces together. A good report is still very useful: you get the dates, the themes and something to come back to all year.
The author matters a lot. Astrodienst's reports are written by famous astrologers, Robert Hand and Liz Greene, which is part of why they cost more. Cafe Astrology's are short and very affordable. Read a free sample where one is offered: Astrodienst has a free try-out edition of Transits of the Year.
Most detailed reports need your exact birth time. Cafe Astrology notes that its solar return report is very sensitive to birth time, and that its Time Line report runs as a solar chart, with the Sun on the Ascendant, if the time is unknown. Astrodienst asks for a time "as exact as possible".
DailyDestiny's reading is built differently on purpose. It needs no birth time, so it does not guess a Moon or rising sign. It places every new moon, full moon, eclipse and retrograde of your next 12 months into your solar houses, adds your personal year number and Chinese zodiac animal, and shows month by month when your year points to love, money, work and rest. Your power days go into your phone calendar in one tap, along with the dates to slow down. Year Ahead Astrology Reports Compared: Free vs Paid (2026) compares it with the others in detail.
Are cheap astrology reports any good?
They can be. A $4 to $8 report gives you real calculated dates and a short interpretation of each, which is plenty for many people. You get less depth and fewer links between themes than in a longer report or a live session. Start cheap and spend more only if you want more.
Are written reports written by AI?
Traditional reports, like Astrodienst's and Cafe Astrology's, are assembled from text astrologers wrote in advance, chosen by your chart's calculations. That is how computer reports have worked for decades. Some newer apps use AI to write text, so check what each seller says about itself.
How much do astrology apps and per-minute chat readings cost?
Astrology apps cost $3.99 to $14.99 a month as of November 2026, and per-minute chat readings with advisors cost about $1.99 to $39.99 a minute, with low intro offers for new customers.
Here are the app subscription prices from each US App Store listing on November 2, 2026.
Astro Future Premium: $3.99 a month or $29.99 a year.
TimePassages Pro: $7.99 a month or $59.99 a year (the birth chart and daily horoscope are free).
Co-Star Pro-Star: $8.99 a month.
CHANI: $11.99 a month or $107.99 a year.
The Pattern: from $14.99 a month, or $83.99 a year for Go Deeper+.
Sanctuary+: $14.99 a month or $49.99 a year.
And here are per-minute rates from the platforms' own pages.
Sanctuary: readers listed at $4.77 to $19.99 a minute, with a $1 a minute intro offer.
Kasamba: advisors listed at $1.99 to $39.99 a minute, most $1.99 to $4.99, with 3 free minutes on a first reading.
Keen: advisors listed at $1.99 to $14.99 a minute, with 5 minutes for $1 for new customers.
California Psychics: the company says its prices range from $5 to $23 a minute.
Per-minute pricing looks small and adds up fast. A 20-minute chat at $4.99 a minute is $99.80, about the price of an hour with some professional astrologers. A 30-minute call at $12.99 a minute is $389.70. And the clock runs while the reader types or shuffles.
So do the maths before you start. Decide your total budget, divide it by the reader's rate, and set a timer for that many minutes. Most platforms let you prepay a fixed amount, which is the safest way to use them.
What do chat platforms do well? Speed. You can talk to someone tonight about one question. What they do less well is depth: a reader who has not studied your chart in advance cannot give you the kind of reading a prepared astrologer can. Many chat advisors are psychics or tarot readers rather than astrologers, so check what each one actually does. How Much Does a Tarot or Psychic Reading Cost (and Is It Worth It)? covers that side in more detail.
Apps sit somewhere else again. They are not readings in the traditional sense, more a daily companion. For learning your chart and daily reflection, an app at $30 to $108 a year can be good value. For a single big question, a session or report is the better spend. Best Astrology Apps in 2026: Honest Picks, Prices and Which Use AI compares the apps in detail.
Are intro offers like $1 a minute a good deal?
They are a fair way to try a reader. Just note what happens after the intro minutes end: the normal rate applies, and some platforms charge per minute until you end the session. Read the terms and set a timer before you start.
Is an app cheaper than a reading over a year?
Usually, yes. A yearly app plan costs $29.99 to $107.99 as of November 2026, less than one live session. But an app gives daily general notes, not a personal conversation, so they do different jobs. Many people combine a free app with an occasional paid reading.
What can you get for free?
You can get a full, accurate birth chart, daily horoscopes, transit lists and a basic year-ahead view for free, which covers most casual curiosity.
Free birth charts: Astrodienst (astro.com), Astro-Seek and Cafe Astrology all draw full charts in your browser for free, with your choice of house system. Astrodienst is the home of the Swiss Ephemeris, a calculation engine used widely in astrology software. Astro-Seek has free calculators for almost everything, including solar returns. Cafe Astrology adds long free interpretations of each placement.
Free apps: TimePassages gives your birth chart and daily horoscope free. Co-Star is free to use, with paid extras.
Free on this site: a birth chart, daily horoscopes for each sign, tarot, numerology, the Chinese zodiac, couple compatibility and a printable 2027 Cosmic Calendar. A free first look at your year is shown before you decide on the paid reading.
What you do not get free is interpretation tailored to you by a person, or a finished 12-month plan with dates you can act on. That is the line where paying starts to make sense.
If you want to do your own reading for free, here is a simple path.
First, draw your chart on a free site and write down your Sun, Moon and rising sign. Big Three Astrology: What Your Sun, Moon and Rising Signs Mean Together explains how they work together.
Second, find the house each planet falls in. The 12 Houses in Astrology: Life Areas Explained tells you which part of life each house describes.
Third, look at the year ahead. On Astro-Seek or Astrodienst, list the transits for your chart, or draw your solar return for your next birthday. The Solar Return Chart guide on this site explains how to read it.
Fourth, put the year's big dates in your calendar. The free 2027 Cosmic Calendar lists every full moon, new moon, retrograde and eclipse.
This takes an evening or two and costs nothing. Many people enjoy it so much that they never need a paid reading. Others find it overwhelming and decide they would rather pay someone to put it together. Both are fine.
One caution about free tools: they are only as accurate as the birth data you give them. A wrong time zone or a guessed birth time will move your rising sign and houses. If you will pay for anything, the first thing worth getting right is your birth time, for free, from your birth certificate.
Are free astrology readings accurate?
The calculations on reputable free sites are accurate. The written interpretations are general, because they describe each placement on its own. They are a good start. For a reading that connects everything to your life, you need a person or a carefully built report.
Why do free astrology sites have ads?
Ads pay for free tools. Astrodienst shows third-party ads and offers an ad-free option, Astrodienst Plus, for USD 12.90 a year as of November 2026. Astro-Seek and Cafe Astrology also show ads. They are the price of free.
What should a fair astrology reading include, and what are the red flags?
A fair astrology reading has a clear price before you start, a clear length, a stated method and no pressure to buy more. You should know exactly what you are paying for and leave with something useful, such as a recording, notes or dates.
Here is what good practice looks like, based on what the professionals we checked publish on their own pages.
A fixed price and length: for example $100 for 30 minutes or $190 for 60.
A clear format: Zoom, phone or in person, with or without a recording.
The birth data they need: date, exact time and place, asked for in advance.
A stated focus: natal, solar return, forecast or relationship.
A sensible cancellation and refund policy, written down.
And here are the red flags that should make you walk away.
Fear sold as a service: "you have a curse", "dark energy is blocking you", "something terrible is coming unless you pay for a ritual".
Open-ended fees: a reading that turns into weekly payments, candles, cleansings or "work".
Promised outcomes: promises that your ex will return or money will arrive.
Pressure: a countdown, "only today" or guilt for asking questions.
The worst cases are not small. The investigations on this site document real, court-recorded schemes. Maria Duval: The Psychic Letters That Took $175 Million covers a mail operation that sent form letters dressed up as personal psychic messages to millions of Americans from 1994 to 2014. Rose Marks: The Psychic Who Took $17.8 Million From Clients covers a fortune teller convicted by a federal jury in 2013 after telling clients they must hand over cash, gold and jewellery to be cleansed. Curse Removal Scams: How "You Are Cursed" Becomes a Bill shows how the most common version of the pattern works. None of these was astrology in the way a professional astrologer practises it, but all of them used the language of fate and fear.
The lesson is simple. Real astrology describes possibilities and timing. It does not threaten you, and it never needs you to keep paying to stay safe. A good astrologer will tell you what a difficult transit might bring and how to work with it, then end the session at the time you agreed.
It is also fair to ask an astrologer about their training. Many have studied with recognised schools or hold certifications from astrology organisations, and many list this on their sites. It is not a legal requirement, and great astrologers exist without certificates, but asking is normal and a professional will not mind.
If a reading leaves you frightened rather than clearer, that is information. Talk it through with someone you trust, and remember that no planet can make a decision for you.
Can an astrologer tell me exactly what will occur?
No honest astrologer can. Astrology looks at themes and timing, such as a year that favours change or a month that suits rest. What you do with that is up to you. Be cautious of anyone who claims certainty, especially if it comes with a price to change the outcome.
What should I do if a reader asks for more money to fix something?
End the session. Requests for extra money to remove curses, cleanse energy or protect you are the classic pattern of psychic fraud. Keep any messages, and if you have already paid, contact your bank or card provider and report it to your local consumer protection agency.
Which kind of astrology reading is worth paying for?
The reading worth paying for is the one that matches your question and how you like to learn. Here is a simple way to choose.
If you are just curious about your chart: use a free birth chart and a free app. Pay nothing.
If you want to understand yourself deeply: book one natal reading with an astrologer whose style you like, about $100 to $330 for an hour from the astrologers we checked.
If you face a big decision this year: book a forecast or solar return session, or buy a detailed 12-month report such as Astrodienst's Transits of the Year at USD 69.90 if you know your birth time.
If you want a daily practice: choose an app, $29.99 to $107.99 a year.
If you want one quick answer tonight: a per-minute chat, with a strict budget and a timer.
If you want a clear 12-month plan from your birthday, without a birth time or a subscription: DailyDestiny's Your Year Ahead is one option, at $29, paid once, dropping to $19 for the 72 hours after every new moon.
Why is DailyDestiny's reading so much cheaper than a session? For an honest reason: no person reads your chart live. A one-to-one year-ahead session with a professional astrologer usually costs $111 to $299, and a written 12-month forecast from one of the big astrology sites is $69.90. We wrote code that places the real sky into your year from your birthday, every new moon, full moon, eclipse and retrograde of your next 12 months, and built it once, so it can do that work for everyone. It opens on a private page the moment you pay, so there is no booking, no studio and no hourly fee to cover. The rest of the site is free, and this one reading keeps it that way. If it does not speak to you, you can email [email protected] within 30 days for a full refund.
Who is it for? People who will use their year: open it each month, put their power days in their calendar and move when the timing feels right. Who is it not for? Anyone hoping for a prediction or a psychic answer, because it is neither. It is reflection and planning, and it does not replace medical, legal or financial advice. If you are only a little curious, the free first look and the daily horoscope are the better fit.
Whatever you choose, spend on the thing you will use. A $4 report you read every month is worth more than a $300 session you forget. And a year planned around your own good weeks, however you get there, is a lovely thing to give yourself.
How often should I get an astrology reading?
Many people get a natal reading once, then a year-ahead reading every year or two, often around their birthday. There is no need for frequent sessions. If you find yourself booking every week for reassurance, take a break and come back when you have a real question.
Is it better to get a reading in person or online?
Both work well. Online sessions on Zoom are now standard and usually come with a recording, which is a real advantage. In person can feel warmer if you have a good local astrologer. Choose the astrologer first and the format second.
Questions people ask
How much does an astrology reading cost?
As of November 2026, a one-hour session with a professional astrologer costs about $111 to $329 from the astrologers we checked, and some well-known astrologers charge $398 to $450 an hour. Written reports cost $3.50 to $70. Astrology apps cost $3.99 to $14.99 a month. Basic birth charts are free on many websites.
How much is a 30-minute astrology reading?
The Punk Priestess, for example, charges $100 for 30 minutes, $145 for 45 minutes and $190 for 60 minutes on her own booking page as of November 2026. Shorter sessions usually cost a little more per minute than an hour, because preparing a chart takes the same time either way.
Is a professional astrology reading worth the money?
It is worth it if you have a real question or a big year ahead and want a skilled person to read your whole chart with you. It is not worth it for idle curiosity, which free charts and daily horoscopes cover well. Book with someone whose style you already like from their writing or videos.
Why are some astrology readings so expensive?
A live reading includes preparation time, often an hour or more before the session, the session itself, a recording and sometimes notes. Astrologers also price by experience and demand. Some of the best known are fully booked, such as Jessica Lanyadoo, whose site lists $450 an hour and says she is not scheduling new consultations.
Do I need my birth time for an astrology reading?
For a full live reading or a detailed written report, yes: your exact birth time and place set your rising sign and houses. Some readings are designed for a birthday only, using solar houses, and some astrologers can estimate a time through rectification, often for an extra fee.
What is the cheapest way to get an astrology reading?
Free birth charts on Astrodienst, Astro-Seek, Cafe Astrology or this site cost nothing. Cafe Astrology's written reports cost $3.50 to $7.95 as of November 2026. For a 12-month plan from your birthday, DailyDestiny's Your Year Ahead is $29, paid once, and it drops to $19 for the 72 hours after every new moon.
What does today hold for you?
