Twin Flames Universe: What the Record Shows About the Love Promise

By DailyDestiny Editorial Team

The short answer

Twin Flames Universe is an online spiritual group run by Jeff and Shaleia Divine from Leelanau County, Michigan, which sells courses, coaching and readings promising to lead you to "Harmonious Union" with your twin flame, your one true love. On 1 July 2025 Michigan's attorney general announced a criminal investigation and executed search warrants, saying a judge had found probable cause that crimes had been committed by the group and its leaders. As of 29 October 2026 we found no public record of charges. Former members, in two 2023 documentary series and in interviews with CTV, accuse the leaders of financial exploitation and coercion. The leaders deny every allegation.

You are sure one person is your other half, and someone online says they can show you the way back to them. That promise has made Twin Flames Universe famous, and put it under a criminal investigation in Michigan. Here is what the record shows: what the group sells, what former members and the leaders say, what investigators have done, and how to protect your heart and your money.

What is Twin Flames Universe, and is it under investigation?

It is 2am. You are rereading messages from someone who left. Your chest aches in a way you have never felt before, and some part of you is sure this is not an ordinary heartbreak. You search "twin flame separation" and find videos of a smiling couple who say your person is your divine other half, that union is possible, and that they can show you the path. The first step is free.

That longing is real, and it deserves respect. It is also exactly what makes people vulnerable. This page is about what the record shows when a group sells that longing a path, and how to tell the difference between a teaching that helps you and one that takes over your life.

If you are here because you believe in twin flames, you do not have to stop believing to read this. The belief itself is covered in our guide Twin Flame Meaning, with its history and an honest warning. This page is about one organisation and what it charges for.

We rely on the Michigan attorney general's release, Associated Press and Interlochen Public Radio reporting, TIME's account of the Prime Video series, CTV's W5 investigation and interview with the leaders, and the group's own website as it stood on 29 October 2026. Allegations are labelled as allegations, and the leaders' answers are included.

What are the key facts about Twin Flames Universe?

What it is: an online organisation, also linked to a church it calls the Church of Union, operated by Jeff and Shaleia Divine in Leelanau County, Michigan (Michigan Department of Attorney General, 1 July 2025; Interlochen Public Radio, 2 July 2025).

What it sells: a promise of "Harmonious Union" with your twin flame, through a free starter kit, free "clarity calls", coaching by "Certified Ascension Coaches", classes in Twin Flame Ascension School, and readings and reports (the group's website, 29 October 2026).

Prices seen: readings and reports from $25 to $500 (website, 29 October 2026); products from a $9.99 Kindle book to an $8,888 "everything package" (Associated Press, 2 July 2025); a $111 a month class tier described by a former member (TIME, 6 October 2023).

Refunds: "All sales are final. All digital purchases are non-refundable" (terms of sale, 29 October 2026).

Size: the group's private Facebook group grew from 14,000 members in 2020 to more than 40,000 by October 2023 (TIME, 6 October 2023). CTV reported "hundreds of thousands of followers worldwide" in March 2025.

Investigation: search warrants executed on 1 July 2025 by the Michigan attorney general's special agents with the US Department of Labor Office of Inspector General, Michigan State Police and the Leelanau and Grand Traverse county sheriffs (Michigan AG, 1 July 2025).

Charges: none found in public records as of 29 October 2026.

Documentaries: Desperately Seeking Soulmate: Escaping Twin Flames Universe (Prime Video, 6 October 2023) and Escaping Twin Flames (Netflix, 8 November 2023).

What does Twin Flames Universe promise, and what does the record show?

The promise. On 29 October 2026 the group's homepage asked: "Have you ever felt your love story was supposed to be different?" It told readers they could "start becoming someone your Twin Flame cannot resist" and "experience the love you always knew was possible." CTV's W5 summarised the core teaching in March 2025: commit to Jeff and Shaleia's principles and you will end up in a "Twin Flame Harmonious Union". One testimonial on the group's success stories page goes further: "The work brought me what it guarantees - Harmonious Union with your Ultimate Partner and Lover."

What former members describe. Victoria Bonilla, a former member, told W5: "We were doing everything we could, and nobody was seeing results. Nobody was any closer to their twin flame or any relationship." Former members told W5 that the leaders told them to be relentless in pursuing their twin flames, from changing their appearance to constant messages and turning up at people's homes. One member ended up with a restraining order against her after the man she was pursuing repeatedly asked her to leave him alone (CTV W5, 23 March 2025; TIME, 6 October 2023).

The allegation about gender. W5 reported that because the group was mostly women and the leaders teach that a union needs one "divine masculine" and one "divine feminine", Jeff Divine paired 22 mostly straight women together and said some of them were divine masculine and should begin transitioning. A former CEO of the organisation, Keely Griffin, told W5 that members who resisted were reported and put "on a list of people who needed to be watched". W5 said 18 members have transitioned, almost all from women to men, and that it does not know how many were questioning their gender before joining. Those members say transitioning was their own choice.

What the leaders say about their own teachings. In W5's interview, Jeff Divine described some of the group's ideas as "silly" and said they were "experimenting" with the beliefs they teach. About the founding idea itself, he said: "the twin flame concept, it's okay if it's misproven. I didn't come into this from a spiritual perspective." Asked whether the divine masculine and divine feminine teaching was one of the silly ideas, he said: "Yeah, any of it. There's no sacred cows here" (CTV W5, 23 March 2025).

Hold that next to the testimonial that says the work "guarantees" union. A seller is allowed to change its mind about its ideas. You are allowed to ask what exactly you were paying for, if the people selling it call it an experiment.

What is the Mirror Exercise?

It is the group's best-known technique, a self-reflection exercise that asks you to take responsibility for whatever is going wrong, often by swapping pronouns so the blame in a situation lands on you. TIME reported in 2023 that Jeff and Shaleia did not invent it but made it the key teaching of Twin Flame Ascension School. The journalist Alice Hines says in the Prime Video series: "If you're constantly being told all of this is your fault, you really lose track of reality and who you really are."

How does Twin Flames Universe make money?

The group's own website and the reporting on it show a path that starts free and climbs.

1. Free content. YouTube videos, a free "TFU Essentials Kit" and a free "clarity call" (website, 29 October 2026). TIME reported that mass media and social media "supercharged" the group's spread.

2. Readings and reports. On 29 October 2026: a Twin Flame Clarity Reading at $25, shown against a struck-through $80; a Twin Flame Ascension Reading at $49, against $150; a Twin Flame Romance Report at $499; and a Twin Flame Soul Design Report at $500, promoted as "On Sale Now".

3. Coaching. One-to-one coaching for "healing Twin Flame Separation" with "Certified Ascension Coaches" (website). The terms say coaching can be cancelled at any time, but "no refund will be provided".

4. The school. Twin Flame Ascension School, sold as subscriptions to recorded group classes. A former member told the Prime Video series she paid $111 a month for the cheapest class she could find, and described being walked through applying for a PayPal credit card at 18 (TIME, 6 October 2023).

5. Bundles. The Associated Press reported products running up to an $8,888 "everything package" with access to hundreds of hours of videos, guided meditations and lessons (2 July 2025).

6. Coaches who recruit. TIME reported that coaches kept the income from their own clients but were expected to recruit more coaches, and that new coaches were asked to buy the library of classes, costing several thousand dollars. CTV reported in March 2025 that the group has been accused of running a pyramid scheme, among other things; the leaders deny every allegation put to them.

The terms you agree to. The group's terms of sale, as published on 29 October 2026, say "All sales are final. All digital purchases are non-refundable." They also say that by buying, you agree not to engage in "any actions that may be construed as libel, slander, defamation, abuse, attack, bullying, or hatred" against any client, student or affiliate, "in perpetuity". Access can be revoked "if you are found defaming the work of Jeff and Shaleia", and "violating these terms may result in legal action against you for injunctive relief as well as monetary damages."

Read that clause slowly. A business is entitled to set rules for its classes. A clause that lasts forever and threatens legal action over criticism is something you should know about before you pay, not after.

Picture the path from the inside. A free video at 2am. A $25 reading. A coach who really listens. A monthly class. A bigger package, because you are so close. Each step makes sense on its own. Add them up over a year or two, and CTV reports that some members spent tens of thousands of dollars.

What is the Michigan attorney general investigating?

Here is everything the official record says, and what it does not.

What happened. On 1 July 2025, Attorney General Dana Nessel announced "an ongoing investigation into Twin Flames Universe". She said: "Today, my office executed multiple search warrants upon individuals atop the Twin Flames Universe organization and its associated properties, under the authority of a judge finding probable cause that crimes have been committed by TFU and their leadership." Special agents from her department worked with the US Department of Labor's Office of Inspector General, Michigan State Police and the Leelanau and Grand Traverse county sheriffs (Michigan AG release, 1 July 2025).

Where. Two homes in Leelanau County, one of them connected to the leaders, near Suttons Bay (AP via NBC News, 2 July 2025; Interlochen Public Radio, 2 July 2025).

The allegation. Nessel said there are allegations that the group exerts "coercive control" over its members across the US through illegal acts (AP, 2 July 2025).

What is not public. Which crimes are under investigation and what investigators were looking for. Jacob Wheeler, editor of the Glen Arbor Sun, told Interlochen Public Radio that the presence of Labor Department investigators raised the question of unpaid work, and that tax questions were another possibility, but he stressed: "we don't know."

Where it stands. We found no public record of criminal charges as of 29 October 2026. The attorney general's office reminds the public that a criminal charge is only an allegation and a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

If you were a member, or you are worried about someone who is, the attorney general's office asked for tips by email at [email protected], and said tips can be anonymous.

What do Jeff and Shaleia Divine say?

The leaders have answered their critics in a public statement and in a long television interview.

The group's statement. On its "media statement" page, Twin Flames Universe says members are "treated with love, acceptance, and support", that its staff includes "PhD researchers and educators from around the globe", and that it honours "the freedom of individuals to explore other options". It goes on: "We take seriously recent allegations implying we wield inappropriate control over our community members. After a careful review of both media coverage and recent productions, we are saddened that so much effort has gone into taking swipes at an organization and community founded on love and mutual respect." It says the allegations "distort our true aims, methods, and curriculums" and misrepresent members' autonomy. The Associated Press quoted the same words in July 2025.

The W5 interview. In March 2025 the couple told CTV's W5 that they deny being cult leaders, deny pressuring or coercing anyone into changing gender, deny encouraging unlawful behaviour, and deny every allegation put to them. They said any conversation with followers is a gentle "invitation to explore". Shaleia Divine said: "People have a mind of their own in our spiritual community and they don't always listen to us and like, that's okay. I don't really care. It's your life."

What they have not done. TIME reported that the Prime Video producers asked them for comment several times and got no response, and the Glen Arbor Sun's editor told Interlochen Public Radio that the couple had never returned his calls.

Their defence rests on one idea: that every member chose freely. That is worth taking seriously, because adults are allowed to make choices other people disagree with. The question for you, if you are thinking of joining any group like this, is whether the conditions make a free choice easy or hard. Debt, isolation from family, a coach you depend on and a teaching that everything is your fault all make it harder.

How do you tell a love teaching from a control system?

You do not have to decide whether twin flames exist to protect yourself. These tests work on any spiritual group, coach or reader that promises to bring you love.

1. Can it promise a person? No teaching can guarantee that a specific human being will love you. If a seller's testimonials say the work "guarantees" union, treat that as a sales claim.

2. Does it tell you to override someone's no? Any advice to keep pursuing a person who has blocked you, asked you to stop or left is advice to harm them and yourself. A restraining order is not a test from the universe.

3. Is everything your fault? Self-reflection is healthy. A method that makes every problem your fault, and the teacher's never, can leave you unable to trust your own judgement.

4. Who decides who you are? Be very wary of any teacher who tells you who your partner is, what your sexuality is or what your gender is. Those are yours to discover.

5. Can you leave cleanly? Check the refund terms, whether the group discourages contact with family, and whether criticism is punished. A clause threatening legal action for criticism "in perpetuity" is a sign to stop and think.

6. Is the price climbing? Free video, cheap reading, monthly class, coaching, a package in the thousands. Write down what you have spent so far and what you were promised for it.

If you are inside a group like this and something feels wrong, you are allowed to step back for a month and see how you feel. Talk to a friend or family member who has nothing to sell you. A good teaching will still be there when you come back. Only a control system needs you not to look away.

What is a healthier way to look for love?

The longing that brings people to twin flame teachings is beautiful. You want to be known completely. You can honour that without handing it to a group.

Our guide How to Manifest Love Without Losing Yourself is about exactly this: keeping your hope and your self-respect at the same time. If one person has taken over your thoughts, Manifesting a Specific Person gives an honest view of what you can and cannot influence. And if you are trying to understand the masculine and feminine language that twin flame groups use, Divine Masculine explains where those ideas come from without telling you who you have to be.

Astrology can be a gentle, free way to reflect on love. You can compare two birth dates on our compatibility pages or our sexual chemistry tool, at no cost and with no sign-up. They describe tendencies. They will never tell you to chase someone who has said no.

We sell one thing. Your Year Ahead is a reading computed by software from your birthday and the real sky over the next 12 months. It has one price, shown before you pay, no subscription, no coaching upsell and a full refund within 30 days if it does not speak to you. It does not promise you a person, and its page says plainly that it is a tool for reflection and not a prediction.

Whatever you believe about souls and flames, here is one thing that is always true: the right love will never need you to give up your family, your savings, your judgement or your sense of who you are. If a path asks for those, it is not leading you home.

Former members interviewed in two 2023 documentary series have described it as a cult, and Interlochen Public Radio called it a group "widely considered to be a cult" in July 2025. Its leaders, Jeff and Shaleia Divine, deny being cult leaders and deny pressuring or coercing anyone, CTV's W5 reported in March 2025. No court has ruled on the question. Michigan's attorney general announced a criminal investigation on 1 July 2025, saying a judge had found probable cause that crimes had been committed by the group and its leadership. An investigation is not a charge or a conviction.

We found no public record of criminal charges as of 29 October 2026. Escaping Twin Flames came out on Netflix on 8 November 2023. CTV's W5 aired a two-hour special with an interview with the leaders in March 2025.

What do Twin Flames Universe reviews say?

They split sharply. The group's own success stories page features members who credit it with finding a partner, healing and a closer relationship with God; one says "The work brought me what it guarantees". Former members interviewed by Netflix, Prime Video, Vanity Fair and CTV describe large spending, pressure to pursue people who did not want them, and pressure over gender and sexuality, which the leaders deny. Read both with care: testimonials are chosen by the seller, and documentaries choose their subjects too.
