What is the difference between telepathy and empathy?
Empathy reads a person through their body, voice, breathing, history and context; telepathy claims to read them with none of that available. The distinction matters because most of what people call telepathy in daily life is high-resolution empathy: finishing a partner's sentence after fifteen years is a prediction built from thousands of observed cues, not a transfer of thought. Telepathy experiments separate sender and receiver into different rooms or buildings precisely to strip those cues away. Careful practitioners make the same split, treating an impression about someone in the room as unusable and reserving the telepathy label for information about someone they cannot see or hear.
Do brain-to-brain interfaces prove telepathy is possible?
Brain-to-brain interfaces do not support telepathy; they are the opposite case. In 2014, a team at the University of Washington linked two people so that an EEG signal from one triggered a transcranial magnetic stimulation pulse over the other's motor cortex, moving their hand. The same year, a separate group reported transmitting the words hola and ciao between volunteers in India and France by encoding them in EEG and delivering them as TMS-induced flashes of light. Every such system needs electrodes, coils, an internet connection and a code agreed in advance. Routing thought through hardware is engineering, not telepathy, and tells you nothing about whether unaided mind-to-mind transfer occurs.
